· Laws and regulations affecting the marriage and family therapy profession. The Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) is the board within the California Department of Consumer Affairs responsible for consumer protection through regulation of marriage and family therapists.

· Provision of services that are within the scope of my education, training and experience


· Maintenance of complete confidentiality except as required or permitted by law. Confidentiality is regulated by laws (the BBS) and ethics (by CAMFT), and can only be breached under certain circumstances. Some examples of these circumstances would be child abuse, elder abuse or when a client is a danger to self or others. Because of my legal and ethical responsibilities to maintain the safety and wellbeing of those involved, in these situations I have no alternative but to breach a client’s confidentiality.
